Beijing Courtyard Restaurang （四合院餐廳）

There are places you try once and places you end up at again and again without ever really deciding to. Beijing Courtyard in Hisings Backa belongs to the second kind. I've eaten here many times by now, and mostly I come back for one way of ordering. The room is stripped-back and clean with sparse decor, so it's obviously not the walls you come for. The place is best known for its Sichuan chicken, and you can tell the food is the draw from who turns up. Quite often whole coach loads of tourists from China roll in, and as a measure of quality for Chinese food, it's hard to find a better one. The thing here is the chef's choice. You say how many dishes you want, and the kitchen decides what comes out. We usually land on four, and then we always ask for a Sichuan chicken on the side, because we don't want to risk missing out on it. For someone who would rather steer in the kitchen themselves, handing over the menu completely is good for you, and so far it hasn't gone wrong. The food comes out fairly quickly, and it's made for sharing. Sitting with your own plate here goes against the whole idea. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the service has been just as good every time I've been. It's not an occasion, more an everyday dinner where the focus is on what comes out of the kitchen. Bring a few friends and ask for the chef's choice with as many dishes as you can manage. Add a Sichuan chicken if it doesn't show up on its own. If you come alone, you'll miss a big part of the point.
