Lao Lao in Stockholm is a small spot with a clear focus: delivering really good Chinese food. Above all, they specialize in jianbing, a type of Chinese crêpe that is common street food in China. It is simple, flavorful, and exactly the kind of food that feels both fast and thoughtful at the same time.
I particularly recommend the version with duck. It has great flavor, a nice texture, and cilantro that lifts the entire dish.
The jianbing feels both substantial and fresh, with a good balance between crispiness, filling, and seasoning. It is the kind of dish where it is easy to understand why it has become popular.
In addition to jianbing, Lao Lao also has a selection of small plates on the menu. This allows you to expand your lunch a bit if you are extra hungry or want to try more flavors.
The menu feels appropriately stripped-down and focused.
The venue is small, so if you want to eat lunch here, you need to be there in good time. It is not a place where you can always count on plenty of space, but that is also part of the charm.
The service is pleasant and the food usually comes out quickly, making Lao Lao a very good lunch stop when you are craving something flavorful and a bit different.
They also have a sister restaurant in the city with the same concept, which is good to know if you want to try the food in more locations.
In summary, Lao Lao is a small but strong street food spot that does jianbing really well. Quick service, great flavors, and above all, a delicious jianbing with duck make this a place I am happy to recommend.
