Masala Curry Alingsås is an Indian restaurant in a residential area in Östlyckan, and it's clear the business is built mainly on takeaway and deliveries. Most guests seem to pick up their food or order through Foodora, so the dining room is often pretty empty. The space is spartan and could do with a bit of a spruce-up, but the setting isn't what you come here for. Prices are low and the focus is entirely on the food.
Masala Curry sits in the middle of a residential area, and from the outside it feels more like a local neighborhood joint than somewhere you'd head out to for a meal. It's easy to miss, which would be a shame, because the food is better than its surroundings suggest.

We ordered onion bhaji and garlic naan to start, followed by Chicken Hariyali and Murg kadahi. Every dish was good. This is well-cooked, no-frills Indian food with great flavors and a level higher than you might expect from the place. Hariyali is a classic with chicken in a green herb marinade, and kadahi is a spicy curry traditionally cooked in a karahi pan, so the two dishes made a nice contrast on the table. The garlic naan did exactly what it was supposed to do: make sure no sauce was left behind.
The staff are friendly and speak good English, and it's almost a little charming how surprised they are every time you say you want to eat in. Everything arrives at once here, so if you want your starters first, it's best to say so when you order. The atmosphere is calm, sometimes very calm, but that works fine if you just want to sit down and eat well.
Masala Curry isn't the place for a fancy dinner in stylish surroundings, but it's a really good choice when you want tasty Indian food at a good price. Cheap and delicious, simply put. If you live nearby or are passing through Alingsås, it's worth a try. If you eat in, you can ask for the starters first.
