Schnitzel so big that even the "smaller" one is plenty, ten minutes by train from Alingsås. Check for gigs and book a table if there is one.
Some places you find once and then keep going back to. For me, Stationen in Norsesund is one of them, and I've been here many times by now. A big part of the charm is how easy it is to get here. From Alingsås the train takes about ten minutes, and from Gothenburg about half an hour. When you step off in Norsesund, you only have a couple of minutes' walk left. It becomes a little excursion without having to think about a car or who's driving home.
You come here for hearty, filling food in a relaxed setting, and you won't go home hungry. The place is more than an ordinary pub-style restaurant, since there are often gigs here, and then it becomes something of a local hangout. As the name suggests, they also run a catering business. Prices are reasonable and the portions are big, so you get a lot for your money.
The schnitzel is the main reason I come here, in both senses. It's really good and properly big, so you're guaranteed to leave full. There's also a "smaller" schnitzel, but that one is also very big and is plenty for most people. If you're not in the mood for schnitzel, they have a good schweinshaxe and tasty sausages. It's food that doesn't try to be anything other than what it is: hearty, well made and full of good flavors.
Both the staff and the owners are friendly, and you can tell they care about their guests. The atmosphere has been lovely every time I've been here, with a relaxed and warm energy. When there's a gig it gets extra lively, and the gigs are often great, making the evening about more than just dinner.
Stationen in Norsesund is a place I'm happy to return to and think is worth a detour, especially since the train takes you almost all the way to the door. My tip is to check their website for any gigs before you go, because then you'll usually need to book a table. Come hungry, and keep in mind that even the "smaller" schnitzel is a big portion.
