Opopoppa

What to eat at a place I've never been to is a decision I'm happy to hand over to someone who knows better. So when I walked into Opopoppa in Malmö, I went straight to the counter and asked what they recommended. The answer was pepperoni, and I had no objections.

The concept is New York-style pizza, sold by the slice. That means you don't have to commit to a whole pie and can put together a little sampler instead. The place is around Möllan and fairly dark inside, and the lighting suits an evening beer better than a lunch break.

The pepperoni slice cost 60 kronor and was as crisp as this kind of pizza should be. The saltiness and the sweetness sat exactly where they should, with neither taking over. The other slice had potato on it. What it was called I've managed to forget, which says more about my notes than about the pizza, because it was in the same class as the pepperoni. With that I had a garlic dip and a beer, and you don't need more than that.

The woman at the counter was friendly, and the tip she gave turned out to be a good one. Ordering is quick and uncomplicated. Then you sit down in the half-dark with your slices and your beer, and it feels more like slipping into a bar than going out for dinner.

Come here for a beer and a slice or two, not for a long dinner. Since the pizza is sold by the slice, you can show up a little hungry and leave just right. Ask at the counter what they think you should get, because it worked out great for me.
